One of our core values at GVI is supporting communities as they help each other toward a better life, so that those who engage in our trips, conferences, and programs can go on to multiply that impact in the domains where they live. A beautiful example of this principle at work is through the life of Thanh Bui, a mom who attended one of the special needs education conferences in Hanoi about 10 years ago. After attending this conference with the goal of improving her own parenting skills, Thanh was inspired to open her own special needs center, Be Unique.
Over the last decade, Thanh has opened 4 different centers in Hanoi that offer training for an average of 100 parents of special needs children each year. These centers also offer support for about 20 students with special needs, offering speech therapy and support for children with autism. Through the support and training of GVI, Thanh is helping dozens of families in Hanoi feel supported and loved, allowing each child to thrive while still allowed to “be unique.”
GVI volunteers from the USA will be back in Hanoi this summer to host the 21st Special Education Conference in partnership with the Hanoi National University of Education. If you are interested in partnering with us to make a difference in this domain, we would love to connect! Contact us at info@glocalventures.org.
