The children at Birla are eagerly anticipating the Lunar New Year celebrations next week! Excitement and joy fill the air as they prepare for one of the most significant events of the year: Tet Holiday. Their enthusiasm is contagious, and they actively participate in decorating the space, taking great pride in transforming their surroundings for this festive occasion.
A highlight of the Tet Holiday is the making of the Chung cake, a traditional Vietnamese delicacy that symbolizes the earth and the respect for ancestors. The children, alongside the dedicated Birla staff, work together to craft these delicious cakes. The Chung cake is made with sticky rice, mung beans, pork, and a dash of salt and pepper, and then boiled for at least 8 to 12 hours. The process is a fun and meaningful activity that allows the children to bond over shared moments of joy and craftsmanship.
One of the most eagerly awaited parts of the Tet celebration is the talent show. This event is an integral part of the festivities, and the children spend months practicing traditional dances and songs in preparation. Their dedication and hard work culminate in a heartwarming performance that fills the village with excitement and festivity. The year-end party, made even more special by these performances, brings so much happiness to the children and to the entire shelter, fostering a deep sense of community and togetherness.
This cultural celebration is brought about by the generous support of our GVI partners and donors. Your partnership ensures that this joyous occasion not only marks the beginning of a new year, but also strengthens the bond between the children and their caregivers and creates memories that will be cherished for years to come.
