GVI is actively involved in improving agricultural practices and access to clean water in the rural villages of northern Vietnam. By collaborating with the Bac Ha Farmer’s Association, GVI has introduced mushroom farming, which utilizes the waste from rice and cornfields as compost, enabling multiple harvests per year. This initiative not only diversifies the income sources for families but also fosters knowledge-sharing within the community, as successful farmers mentor others in starting their own mushroom farms.
In addition to enhancing agricultural productivity, GVI provides walk-behind tractors to rural families, significantly increasing their efficiency in rice and corn farming. This contribution has the potential to double a family’s income within a year, offering them a pathway out of poverty. Furthermore, GVI addresses the critical need for clean drinking water by installing water filters in schools and community centers. These filters, which cost $85 each, remove harmful bacteria and contaminants, ensuring that communities have access to safe water for years to come.
