Child Abuse Intervention Training - November 2013November 25, 2013
Glocal Ventures, Inc (GVI) and the social worker faculty of Hanoi National University of Education came together to hold a conference about child abuse for 60 students and lecturers over 2 days.
The Child Abuse team, with 3 members, was in Hanoi from November 12th to 17th. Child abuse intervention is a new area of focus in Vietnam and a new curriculum at the Hanoi National University. Students and teachers were very eager and open to join the conference. Content of the conference included the following:
- Purpose and Mission of the Child Abuse Intervention Program
- Interviewing, Investigation, and Assessment of Child Abuse
- Love and Logic
The content of the conference was practical for students in Vietnam. It helped them to see clearly how a social worker works in real life. It also helped students define what they could do after they graduate.
The team also spent 2 days sharing child abuse intervention training methods to 30 nurses and doctors at the National Pediatric Hospital, along with some parents at Ban Mai Primary School.
With love for children in Vietnam, the team shared good information and experience for Vietnamese students, teachers and parents. Because 2 lecturers of the team were the victims of child abuse, they gave real examples that were so touching; it helped the Vietnamese people see a promising new view of child abuse and how to deal with victims.
