Sports Camp - October 2013

October 31, 2013

In July 2013, the first Sports Camp team came to Vietnam. The team taught the students and teachers how to play baseball and brought donated items needed to play the game. The week long program was so successful that the students kept playing together even after the GVI team had left. The students kept practicing and wanted to become the best in the game.

The program has not stopped at baseball; the second sport camp team came to Vietnam from Oct 16th to Oct 24th and brought basketballs and hoops for students and teachers in Bac Ha and Sapa in the Lao Cai Province. The team set up 4 basketball hoops at 4 different schools, then taught the students and teachers how to play the game. Not only did the students liked to play but teachers also wanted to make basketball a physical education subject at school for 2013 - 2014 year.

My turn!!!

The game encourages students go to school, because they know that they will have more friends and more fun at school. They can do exercise, they can relax after working hard, and of course they can set up their own club, and make a competition with other schools. Can you imagine how it works?

In addition, the team also went to visit 3 families and donated water buffalos for them. The families are very poor and have many challenges. One of the families has kids, but the mother past away 4 years ago, and the father past away 9 months ago. The oldest child, named Sung Cui Dung, is disabled but he is the one who earns the money and takes care of his brothers and sisters. His younger sister is studying at Nam Mon II primary school. Having a water buffalo is a big thing for his family. It will help his family farm the land more efficiently and deliver more goods to the market.

As you can see, this one trip has touched some many people and has made a difference in the lives of the people in this community.
