Who Will/Can Go?
Posted on June 19th, 2009.As we ramp up the planning for our next trip to Vietnam in August, I’m reminded about all it takes to make this happen. So many people play so many roles. Its actually really amazing that so many people from so many backgrounds can contribute to make our trips great. Its also amazing seeing how God creates the desire for our fellow Coloradoans to go to Vietnam.
We are realizing how important preparing long term for these trips will be for new participants to go. Many want to go, few really want to go, and even fewer have the money, time, and passport ready to go. And , as the CR rep for GVI , I see that in the future many more can go if I can work in the following ways. First, start a passport campaign. Everyone should have a passport ready to go, to go to Vietnam or to go to Mexico for a leisure vacation, it is good to have around. Second, we need to develop our fundraising efforts. With the economy I find more and more people that want to go but cannot afford to go. It is the time to find those who wish they could go and can financially, but cannot time wise, and match them up with those that have the time and desire on their hands.
But the stories behind the individuals that want to go are so amazing. People that want to see a new part of the world, people wanting to give to others they have never met before, people wanting to go out of their comfort zones knowing it will cost them most of their vacation time and they will need a vacation from their vacation, people going with the realization that the only chance they may get to to share what is most important may be through their actions. We have all ages and backgrounds, young and older married couples, singles, fathers, mothers, and hopefully kids visiting Vietnam soon. And once someone goes, they are hooked! They talk about next time they go, how they will not be in as much culture shock, wanting to reconnect with the same villages, wanting to see different villages, buying more of this and that, and next time being brave enough to try this or that (perhaps eating dog). Those who go have a bond, a bond and a love for a country so different and curious. It is my hope that we can grow this group throughout the next two years. It is a great bond to share. It is amazing how our Creator made Americans in this time of age, to love Vietnam so much.
Cool River Church loves Vietnam and has a heart for Vietnam. Please pray that as many as want to go can find a way to go.
