A Day at The Museum
Posted on June 12th, 2012.What was your feeling when you went to the museum for the first time???
GVI has been supported Social Sponsor Center 3 (SS3) in different areas such as elderly care, elderly club, nutrition program for children, building material facilities/infrastructure, live stock, taking children on beach trips, creating fun day for the kids….
On one of the monthly fun day, we took them to the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology. They were so excited days before the trip. They talked about it all day long, they discussed about what they imagined, they palpitated with excitement and they could not sleep at night. It is not difficult for you to imagine their faces when we arrived the museum. What an expression!!! What a wonderful experience for them and for us!!! What a wonderful world!!!
After the trip, we encouraged them to write about what the most impressive thing of the day was. And here what they shared and through these words you would imagine how that day was.
Tinh:
.. “We had chance to see the long house of Ede group. This house would be lengthened when a girl of this family got married- each girl was married they added one more room for the new couple. The master of the house was their grandmother…” … “Among the house I visited, I liked the long house of Ede group the most because it proved the power of the women in a family. It showed that it’s not true when people think that female is always flaccid…”
Yen:
… “My dear sisters, I love the museum very much because it’s very beautiful. I will try my best to write the longest essay I can because sister Huong asked me to do. I love you the most among the people who love you. I give you a heart shape. It’s symbol of love. I love you so much!
Tri:
“On Saturday, sister Huong took us to Vietnam’s Ethnology Museum. When we arrived, we saw a big ground in front of the museum. In the middle of the ground, we see a lunar New Year pole. As far as I know, the pole is only for the big ceremony”.
An: … “Among the house we visited, I liked Ede’s house most because it’s lower than others that we weren’t afraid of falling from this. I think that my essay is long enough”…
Nhung:
… “I saw Hmong’s dress. It is very special. It was dyed and used beeswax to make patterned fabric on the skirt. It’s the evidence of skillfulness of H’Mong women. They themselves embroidered their dresses so their dresses were their dowry. When a H’Mong woman gets married, she will wear this dress on her wedding. It takes them from 3 to 9 months to weave fabric and each dress weigh from 10 to 20 kilogram (from 22 pounds to 44 pounds)”… … “I had chance to learn and know more about different Vietnamese groups. Thank you so much for spending time with us and taking us to Vietnam ethnology museum”.
Hieu:
“…We went outside and saw Bana’s house. It was very impressive. It was 19 m of length (about 5.7 feet). To build this house, the museum had to invite 42 local people from the West South of Vietnam to come to Hanoi and it had been built for a long time…” … “After we went to the ethnology museum, I found out that there are many ethnic groups in Vietnam.”
Huong:
… “We had an opportunity to visit Vietnam Museum of Ethnology in order to relax and know more about different Vietnamese groups and their rituals as well. As we arrived, all of us were so excited to go inside and wanted to rush forward immediately but we had to wait for sister Huong to buy the tickets and sister Thao to take her scooter and follow us”… … “Thank for giving us a precious time and help me and other brothers and sisters broaden our knowledge”…
Duy:
… “I liked the Bana’s house the most-communal house because it was the highest one because it was suitable with my characteristics. I always went beside brother Hong because I wanted to hear him introduce more about different groups so I would get more ideas to write. Sister Huong, brother Hong, sister Thao and sister Tra leaded us to the water puppet show. I saw one man who tried his best to kill a water buffalo. It was very interesting”… … “I write rather long. I only expect to get mark 9, not mark 10 (in Vietnam schools, mark 10 is the highest score). With this mark I will get chance to have more trips like this”…
Be:
“… The typical feature of the long house was it was not long at first. When one person in a family got married, they built more room for the new couple. It was very impressive to me when the master of the house was always the mother…”
Ha:
… “On Saturday morning, I woke up very early because I was so excited to prepare and to go on the trip. At first, I didn’t know which museum and its location. When we arrived, I found out that it was Vietnam’s Ethnology Museum”… …. “When we had visited all the houses in the museum, GVI brothers and sisters took us to lunch at BBQ chicken”… … “That visit was very interesting. I knew more about the cultures and customs of 54 groups-their traditional houses and costumes”…
